2017 Founder’s Day Weekend

Please join us for our 2017 Founder’s Day Celebration and Sangha Weekend to be held August 5-6, 2017 at Providence Zen Center in Cumberland, Rhode Island. This annual celebration honors our founding teacher Zen Master Seung Sahn. It is a great opportunity to learn more about his life, his teachings, and how he continues to teach us every day.

PRECEPTS: There will be a precepts ceremony on Saturday afternoon, August 5, at 3:00 pm. If you are interested in taking precepts then, please download and read the Precepts Information and Application Booklet.

The deadlines for submitting a precepts application are June 30 for those who wish to become a Dharma Teacher in Training by taking ten precepts. For all other preceptees, the application deadline
is July 14

MEAL DONATION: The daily events are free and open to the public, but if you are not staying overnight, we request a $5 per person per meal donation, to help us offset the costs of these weekends.

REGISTRATION: If you’ll be staying overnight and/or need transportation, you must register here. The guest fee for the weekend (whether you stay one or two nights) is $50 for adults, and $15 for children.

A late fee ($10 per individual or $20 per family, per night) will be charged for registrations received after Wednesday, July 28. If you’ll be staying overnight, please remember to bring a  towel. We’ll provide bedding.

If you like to come for just Saturday and Sunday, you do not have to register. But please contact Ames Colt at (401) 658-1476 or director@kwanumzen.org to let him know of your plans and whether you would be willing to volunteer to help with meal prep and cleanup or other tasks over the weekend.

A detailed 2017 Founder’s Day weekend schedule may be found here.

We hope you can join us!
