Bio: Myong An Sunim was born in Malaysia in 1959. His family is Chinese. He received his secondary and tertiary education in the UK, eventually graduating with a master's degree. He worked for 10 years in London, Hong Kong and Singapore within the field of finance. Inspired by Zen Master Seung Sahn's Dharma talk at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in the summer of 1992, he began zen practice as an absolute beginner. He was a member of the fledging Hong Kong Zen Centre's first group of directors. He continued to practice there regularly and became a Dharma Teacher in the Kwan Um School of Zen. After sitting three full winter Kyol Ches in Korea, he decided to join the monastic tradition and received his precepts in February 1997, becoming the last monk to be ordained by Zen Master Seung Sahn. Subsequently, he spent his time sitting summer and winter retreats at Hwa Gye Sa before moving to Mu Sang Sa in the year 2000. There, he served in various roles such as the Director, Head Monk and Finance Director and helped organize the Whole World Is A Single Flower Conference in 2002. He also raised funds for the Mu Sang Sa temple building project and is a member of the board of directors of the Seung Sahn International Zen Center Foundation - Mu Sang Sa in Korea. He returned to Malaysia in 2013 and, in July of that year, started Haeng Won Zen Centre in Penang in a rented house. The center was recently gifted a 4 acre piece of land in the countryside in early 2015 and he is currently developing plans to turn it into a Zen meditation retreat center.
